This Valentine’s Day was especially meaningful for my mother, as it was her first since my dad passed in November. He always bought her lavender roses, and they were always beautiful. I thought I had ordered lavender, but perhaps I mistakenly selected purple instead. Unfortunately, the roses that arrived were so dark they were almost blue—not at all the soft lavender shade she cherished.Beyond the color mix-up, the overall presentation was very disappointing. When my mom brought them inside, she had to completely redo the arrangement because it looked like the flowers had fallen over in transit and weren’t properly rearranged before delivery. The most upsetting part, though, was the smell. Instead of the fresh, delicate fragrance of roses, they had a strong smoke odor, which was overwhelming and completely ruined the experience.While I can overlook a color mistake, the poor arrangement and especially the smoke smell were unacceptable. This was supposed to be a special and sentimental gift, but instead, it left us all feeling disappointed.
